You can avoid paying fees and charges by observing some simple rules when making transactions, including:
- Use rediATMs/Reditellers (locations available from www.rediatm.com.au).
- When you make a purchase at an EFTPOS terminal, withdraw cash at the same time - this will only count as one transaction.
- When you use your Visa Debit Card, select the 'credit' option (where available) - the transaction will not be included in your EFTPOS transactions.
- Use Visa Debit Card to pay bills over the phone, internet or mail.
- Dishonour Fees:
- When checking your account balance, it is important to remember that 'current balance' represents what funds are potentially available for withdrawal; whereas 'available balance' represents what is actually available (the difference relates to funds which are not yet cleared or VISA authorisations not yet presented).
- ATM or EFTPOS: check your balance using online banking www.adcu.com.au or phone banking 1300 13 23 28 before making the withdrawal or EFT transaction.
- Cheques: ensure you have sufficient funds in your account by checking online or phone banking before writing the cheque. Also remember that deposited cheques take 3 business days to clear.
- Direct Debits: budget for these regular expenses by setting up an allotment each pay day and keeping funds in a separate 'sub-account'. Alternatively, arrange a regular 'internal transfer' from another account to your sub account to ensure funds are always available.
